Website Privacy Policy – Tara Smith Therapy Services

Oct 28, 2026 · @Tara Smith

Effective date: [October 28, 2026]

Tara Smith Therapy Services, LLC ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Website Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit tarasmiththerapy.com (the "Website").

This policy covers the Website only. If you become a client, your health information is protected under federal law (HIPAA) and South Carolina law, and is described in our separate Notice of Privacy Practices, which you will receive during intake. If the two documents ever conflict regarding your health information, the Notice of Privacy Practices controls.

Information We Collect

Information you give us. When you fill out a contact form, sign up for updates, or email or call us, we may collect your name, email address, phone number, and anything you choose to include in your message.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our Website and its hosting provider may automatically collect basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, time spent on pages, and the website that referred you. This information does not identify you by name.

How We Use Information

We use the information collected through the Website to:

  • Respond to your questions and requests, including scheduling a consultation

  • Send updates or resources you have signed up for (you can unsubscribe at any time)

  • Understand how visitors use the Website so we can improve it

  • Maintain the security and proper functioning of the Website

  • Comply with legal and professional obligations

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Contacting Us Through the Website

Website contact forms and standard email are not fully secure methods of communication. Please do not include sensitive personal or health information in a contact form or initial email. A brief note with your name, the best way to reach you, and the type of service you are interested in is all we need to get started.

Contacting us through the Website does not create a therapist–client relationship. That relationship begins only after we have both agreed to work together and you have completed intake paperwork.

This Website is not for emergencies. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate the Website and our practice. These services have their own privacy policies.

  • Squarespace: Hosts the Website and processes contact form submissions

  • Google Workspace: Business email

  • Sessions Health: Secure, HIPAA-compliant client portal for scheduling, intake forms, billing, and records

  • Spruce: Secure, HIPAA-compliant business phone, voicemail, and text messaging

Once you become a client, your health information is stored in our secure client portal and handled according to our Notice of Privacy Practices, not this Website policy.

Cookies and Analytics

The Website uses cookies, which are small files stored on your device, to function properly and to help us understand how visitors use it. Squarespace provides basic visitor analytics. [If you add Google Analytics, a Facebook/Meta pixel, or similar tools, name them here.]

You can set your browser to refuse or delete cookies. Some parts of the Website may not work as intended if you do.

How We Share Information

We share information collected through the Website only:

  • With the service providers listed above, who help us run the Website and practice

  • When required by law, such as a court order or subpoena

  • When necessary to protect someone's safety, as permitted or required by law and professional ethics

  • With your written permission

As part of my LMFT-Associate licensure, I receive clinical supervision. Supervision discussions are governed by our Notice of Privacy Practices and professional confidentiality standards, not by this Website policy.

Security and Retention

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No website or internet transmission is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep Website inquiries only as long as needed to respond to you and run our practice. If you become a client, your records are kept as required by South Carolina law and professional standards.

Children's Privacy

The Website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Website. Children are seen only as part of family therapy, and a parent or guardian arranges and consents to their care. If you believe a child has submitted information to us through the Website, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your Choices

You may ask us to update or delete the information you submitted through the Website, or unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in the email. Requests about client records are handled under our Notice of Privacy Practices.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page with a new effective date.
